What the owner of this website has done is, allowed a forum for people like us who have had a bad experience to share our thoughts and allow people to think for themselves. We didn't share our experience as you refer to as the "disgruntled father" for any other reason then allow others to see the negatives of this competition and therefore upon entering, enter wtih eyes wide open......... Our opinion will never change on this competition simply because of Our Experience!
Whatever Alex Maine's motivation is doesn't change the fact of our experirence.

Re: Fail: Maritime Idol – Revisited

My comment was not "fake", and nor was it copied or pasted from anywhere. Copying and pasting text is not alot of effort. I stand by my thoughts.

Re: Fail: Maritime Idol – Revisited

you are certainly entitled to your own opinion as everyone is, but I disagree with your comment. I'm not sure how much of a benefit it is for a young performer to be constantly criticized by two judges, that in our opinion were not qualified to judge a singing contest. In our experience maybe it would be beneficial for the contest to have judges that could possibly be a little more diplomatic and discreet in choosing their clear favourite several weeks before the final evening of judging. Many of these contestants were very young and possibly may not have had the same confidence level of an older contestant. It is a little disheartening when a young performer was criticized for her vocals when she was clearly very ill, and seeing tears shed because of a contest at this level in my opionion is unacceptable.
However, I do agree that it is a business and yes you do need to make money, but at who's expense? The issue is every business has guide lines to follow and rules and regulations and when these are broken there should be consequences for that particular business.
Our daughter has received more benefit and experience from contests that were run much more professionally, and did not cost us a cent. She has had more exposure from posting her own videos that did not cost her anything. We certainly do not need a contest to tell us that she is extremely talented and has a future in music, but it would have been nice for us to know that the rules were going to change 3/4 of the way through the contest therefore would have saved us a bundle which we would have rather spent on producing her own cd. Performing is not new to her nor is speaking or interacting with the public, she has been a successful track and field athlete most of her life and has gained confidence and positive life experience through her athletics as well. Did she win all of her races? no, but she knew the rules were not going to change part way through her event.
We will say however that there was a positive to all of this, our daughter did meet some wonderful people, that being the other contestants that she had the privilege of meeting.

I also need to applaud one contestant that had the confidence to argue with the judges and stand her ground when being criticized for her performance.

It is true that the destination isn't everything, but if the ride is bumpy getting there it is not too enjoyable......

Re: Farewell, Canada

Sorry to see you go, Alex. A poisoned work environment gets you all worked out. Maritime Idol competition gets you all worked out. It seems every environment you are in gets poisoned... Mmm I think I see a connection here!

When was the last time you saw a professional 12 year old singer?

Before you make statements like that, check your facts!

Re: Fail: Maritime Idol – Revisited

Inconsistencies? Yes I think there were some. Looking back, I am sure the producer would have done some things differently. Was he in it for the money? A business will not run for long if it doesn't have a positive cashflow. MI is a business. So I guess yes, he is in it for the money.

I feel sorry for the father who did not see the benefit of his daughter participating to the contest. Those competitions are the best school a kid could ever get into. Even if they don't win, they get a bagage of experience they could not find in any school.

These contests bring out the best in these kids, it gets them used to speaking and interacting with the public, it really helps them get out of their shell. It doesn't mean that because you win one of these contests that you wil get further in this profession. There are several professional signers who participated in these types of contests and never won any of them!

On a trip, the destination isn't everything; you have to enjoy getting there too!

Re: Farewell, Canada

Well that is sad news alex, I'm sorry things didn't work out however it will be good to have you back here in the UK.

Re: Farewell, Canada

Sorry to hear about your departure.
